On September 30, YWCA Regina marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a day for our staff and community to spend volunteering, learning, and paying respect to First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples, guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s own definition of reconciliation: awareness of the past, acknowledgement of the harm that has been inflicted, atonement for the causes, and action to change behaviour. 

YWCA Regina’s offices will be closed Wednesday, September 30, in observance of the day. Our 2024 Decolonization Framework commits YWCA Regina to Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action 92 and to systemic change, not recognition alone. Residential schools are not ancient history: the last one closed in 1996, and roughly 150,000 children attended (ictinc.ca). The effects are still measurable today, including in child welfare and health outcomes for Indigenous adults who came through these systems (Statistics Canada, 2025).
