Operationally funded by the Ministry of Social Services, YWCA Regina’s Semi-Independent Youth Housing Program provides housing and essential life skills development for men, women, and gender-diverse youth ages 16–21, including any children they have or are expecting, who are transitioning out of government care and are ready for more independence, but still need a reliable support system. It’s a stable, consistent home environment where young people referred by the Ministry of Social Services can practice living on their own, build skills, and plan for the future with 24/7 mentorship and support.
Youth have been involved in the creation of this Program from the start, helping define the need, shape the approach, and participate in the RFP process. This Semi-independent Housing Model was identified and championed by the Youth Advisory Team, a youth-led committee established by the John Howard Society.
To be eligible, youth need to be under Ministry care, and a referral can be made through your Ministry of Social Services (MSS) worker.
