Supportive Family Program

YWCA Regina operates housing for children requiring a continuum of care. We believe that no matter the circumstances surrounding them, every single child deserves to feel safe and loved by people who care for them in a supportive home.

We operate four Children’s Homes, which provide long and short-term stays for children with complex needs aged 0 to 11, requiring special placement while in the care of the Ministry of Social Services. These children are provided a warm, safe, and nurturing environment to promote their well-being while awaiting the next step in their journeys.

Our Children’s Homes have integrated cultural programs that are supported by a Knowledge Keeper. They provide spiritual support as well as advising on culturally appropriate programming, teachings, and ways of knowing. The YWCA recognizes that 80% of children in the child welfare system identify as Indigenous, a result of generations of colonialism, residential schooling, and trauma that disrupts Indigenous families to this day. We are committed to taking the steps to address this and change the story for the kids in our care. The ultimate goal for children residing in our homes is to provide culturally supportive and trauma-informed safe places as they transition to stable homes, or, hopefully, be reunified with their families.

mekwayahtik mawihkani wati (Wolf Den)

Beautiful Wolf Den Amongst the Trees (Pronounced as Mee-quay-a tick ● My-yee-ka-knee ● Wa-day)

Also known as Wolf Den, this home provides short-term housing for up to 10 children while the work is being done to determine the best placement for them by the Ministry of Social Services.

Wolf Den provides a warm, safe, and home-like environment to ensure the children in care feel safe and secure, and mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually supported.

Parker Place

Parker Place is a long-term therapeutic home for children aged 0-11 with complex needs, in need of special placement while in the care of the Ministry of Social Services. Children stay at Parker Place for a longer period of time, and are given the support and tools to address their health, behavioral and developmental needs to help them with their next move into a family environment. This is done with a trauma informed healing lens and in a culturally supportive environment.

Evergreen

Evergreen is a long-term therapeutic home for children aged 0-8 with complex needs, in need of special placement while in the care of the Ministry of Social Services.

Children stay here for a longer period of time, and are given the support and tools to address their health, behavioral and developmental needs to help them with their next move into a family environment.

sîpihko-mihkinâhk asiniy wâskahikan opened in 2019, providing long-term therapeutic placement for children aged 0-11 with complex needs, in need of special placement while in the care of the Ministry of Social Services. Children stay for various lengths of time, and are provided with a nurturing and culturally supportive home environment where they are given all the tools and support to address their health, behavioral and developmental needs to help them with their next move into a family environment.
