Advocacy Frameworks for Change

YWCA Regina

Our Commitment to Advocacy

YWCA Regina works toward reducing barriers for women, and changing the systems that often create those barriers. In order to do so, we seek to create awareness of women’s issues, influence public policy at every level of government, and when appropriate advocate with various agencies on behalf of our clients.

All advocacy initiatives of YWCA Regina will be in harmony with the advocacy priorities and positions of YWCA Canada. While some national advocacy priorities may be given less prominence locally, YWCA Regina will not oppose or undermine the advocacy positions set out by YWCA Canada.

To learn more about what we’re advocating for right now, visit YWCA Canada and other YWCA Canada Member Affiliates like YWCA Metro Vancouver.

What Advocacy Means to Us

At YWCA Regina, advocacy is about standing alongside women, children, and gender-diverse people—and using our voice to amplify theirs. We are committed to listening deeply, honouring lived experience, and challenging the systems and policies that cause harm. Rooted in relationships and grounded in trust, our advocacy work grows from the real stories we are privileged to hold. It’s not about speaking for others—it’s about ensuring those most impacted are heard, seen, and respected.

Whether we’re meeting with government leaders, building partnerships, or offering support through our programs, advocacy is woven into everything we do. We are committed to showing up with integrity and care—in the healing lodge, in community circles, and in moments of crisis. Advocacy, for us, is not separate from care—it is care. It’s how we create space for safety, dignity, and long-term change.

YWCA Regina

Frameworks for Change

In 2021, YWCA Regina established Frameworks for Change in order to focus our commitment to organizational knowledge gain, changes to internal policies, shifts in system changes, accountability to our community and governance changes.

Gender and Sexual Diversity Framework

  • The GSD community recognizes that the YWCA Regina is a safe and trusted partner and ally.
  • YWCA Regina policy, programs, processes, and evaluations are intentionally inclusive of GSD experiences.
  • YWCA Regina advocates for and amplifies the voices of the GSD community.

Decolonization Framework

  • Truth is reflected within the foundation of the organization and that the organization is held accountable to meet the TRC calls to action.
  • YWCA Regina is a culturally safe and supportive organization for Indigenous staff and board members.
  • YWCA Regina actively participates in decolonizing systems and institutions in our community.

Anti-Black Racism Framework

  • YWCA Regina’s feminism is intersectional, and it speaks to the experiences of all women.
  • YWCA is a safe and supportive organization for Black staff, board members and service users.
  • YWCA actively participates in dismantling harmful practices, unacknowledged systems, and institutions that perpetuate racism in our community.
