Cat Haines
Cat’s work focuses on the needs of queer and trans youth and creating more accessible trans-affirming healthcare in Saskatchewan. She works tirelessly towards this cause and has remained resilient throughout all of the bigotry and hatred that exists in our province. We need folks like Cat to advocate for equity for people of all genders, especially when navigating the healthcare and legal system.
Cat has been actively organizing queer and trans events and interventions in Regina for over five years, and her activism has included street level organizing, community event planning, mutual aid, and non-profit work at both the board, and staff level. Cat created Resilience, a trans talking group in Regina, and organized Saskatchewan’s first Trans Pride event in 2018. Most recently, Cat founded Into the Streets, an intergenerational, paid peer mentorship program for Two Spirit, trans, non-binary and gender nonconforming people who were assigned male at birth or are otherwise affected by transmisogyny.
Cat is the Executive Director of JusticeTrans, an organization that provides justice and legal Information for Two Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Non- Conforming Communities Across Canada.
