As the snow falls and the temperatures drop, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Many of us are looking forward to all the things that make the holidays special – time with family, the warmth of home, and special presents under the tree.
But for women and children facing poverty, houselessness, and domestic violence, the holidays do not hold that same joy.
The women and families who are staying in YWCA Regina’s shelters, residence, and children’s homes this winter are going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, coping with tough situations, and looking for hope. We believe they deserve that hope, healing, and happiness. More than this, they deserve that same Christmas magic that makes the season special for others.
2021 and 2022 have continued to be especially tough years for our community’s most vulnerable, with needs for services increasing. And while YWCA Regina houses nearly 1,000 women and kids each year, thousands more must be turned away due to lack of space.
Our greatest Christmas wish is that this never happens – that on Christmas morning, every shelter bed is empty because every woman and child is safely and happily enjoying the holiday in their own home. But until this can be a reality, we need YOU to make Christmas magic for the families who will wake up on Christmas morning in our shelters.
Your contribution, big or small, makes all the difference for someone in need of extra support and shows our women and children that they are cared for, at the holidays, and every day.
